Woodworking machine from the SCM L’invincibile family

SELECTED TECHNOLOGY

L’invincibile / solid wood preparation

A family of joinery machines for surfacing, thickness planing, sawing and profiling. For a unique product, the quality of reference surfaces and repeatability of settings determine how the components will fit together.

The si x circular saw allows the blade to tilt in both directions. The eye-S display and Maestro active interface assist with setup; saving programmes and tool data makes it possible to return to a proven working method. Connection with SCM Thundercut supports cutting organisation.

SCM balestrini idea five-axis CNC centre

SELECTED TECHNOLOGY

balestrini idea / more demanding shapes

Compact five-axis CNC centre with a fixed gantry and one or two independent moving tables. A suitable concept for shaped components where complexity goes beyond simple rectangular cutting.

The design of the work table, template, mechanical clamps or vacuum holders is selected according to the shape of the product. The Smart Pro CAD/CAM program enables preparation of operations, toolpath optimisation and simulation. On-machine control is provided by Maestro active.

Axis count or rated power alone do not determine the right machine. Material flow, geometry, clamping and the required finish matter.

Surface planing: establish a reference face

The surface planer creates a flat reference face and edge for subsequent operations. This establishes how solid-wood parts fit together before the final thickness is set.

Long tables support the workpiece. TERSA knives and the Xylent spiral cutterhead offer different tooling choices; Xylent inserts can be rotated to expose a fresh cutting edge. Concave/convex adjustment supports preparation of glued joints.

  • Working width: 520 mm.
  • Total table length: 3,008 mm.
  • Maximum stock removal: 8 mm; actual removal depends on timber and tooling.

Thicknessing: a repeatable dimension

The thicknesser machines the opposite face relative to the prepared reference face. This produces a defined thickness for subsequent sizing, profiling or assembly.

Electronically adjustable feed and independently set pneumatic pressure at the infeed and outfeed rollers adapt the process to the material. Interchangeable rollers and cutterhead configuration are selected for the timber and finish.

  • Working width: 630 mm.
  • Working height: 3.5–300 mm.
  • Feed speed: 4–20 m/min; maximum stock removal: 8 mm.

Settings for the woodworking machine

For the si x, digital control has a practical purpose: to select positions, save the program and tool data, and reuse them. This is not the same as preparing a three-dimensional model for CNC.

Shape for five-axis CNC

With balestrini idea, Smart Pro prepares the geometry, operations and tool paths. Simulation helps review the sequence before production. Compatibility of your 3D files, the postprocessor and the selected machine head is checked together.

From well-dried timber to the surface

Before machining, wood needs the right moisture content and stability. This is followed by tool selection, secure clamping, sanding and surface protection. With solid wood, grain direction and appearance are not solved simply by pressing a button.

ARHAR links the choice of equipment to your product. The scope of commissioning, software preparation and support is defined by agreement.

Before choosing a machine

Why are surface planing and thicknessing separate?

Surface planing establishes a flat reference; thicknessing sets the dimension relative to it. Setting a thickness alone does not correct every shape defect if the reference face is unsuitable.

When is five-axis CNC useful?

For three-dimensional shapes, repeatable complex joints and several operations in one setup. For one-off work, include programming, fixture and clamping preparation time in the decision.

What should I send for a useful recommendation?

A sketch or 3D model, timber species, maximum dimensions, required finish and quantity of identical parts. Add the most demanding joint and describe your existing equipment.
